“We are MATH Architects, based in The Hague, and we design spaces.”

Founded in 1983, MATH architects has handled a wide variety of projects throughout the Netherlands, as well as select international assignments. Over the years, we have gained invaluable expertise by working on new constructions for private clients and institutions, alongside complex transformation, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects. What truly makes us stand out is our deep expertise in heritage related buildings and monuments.

Design challenges can quickly become complex. By listening carefully, applying analytical insight and anticipating future needs, we can simplify the project. This saves time and money. Thanks to our knowledge of permitting procedures and building code requirements, we can prevent unnecessary delays in the lengthy process of obtaining a permit. We seek out challenging projects, whether due to their historic status, specific location, unique functionality or complex structural condition. We strive for the highest quality.

The core philosophy of MATH is to create timeless spaces that elevate the experience of their users. To achieve this, we pay meticulous attention to everything from the smallest detail to the broader vision. Minimalist lines, maximal space optimization, climate-conscious orientation, and thoughtful materiality tailored to user needs lead to spaces that retain their value for decades.

For all projects, a value analysis of the existing building serves as the starting point for the design. Assessing the current condition forms the basis of our work. To this end, we research data in archives and/or conduct an on-site survey of the building. The goal is a harmonious final result in which the building’s existing qualities and historical values are optimally showcased in a structure that is fully future-oriented in both use and experience.

A space is meant to be lived in. By paying attention to aesthetic and technical details, we create a structure that is sustainable. It protects against the elements, takes the future into account, and, above all, leaves room for the user. We are MATH, and we design spaces.
